1923

Shows at New Hamilton Theatre: The All Sisters Quartet – admission adults 50 cents, children 25 cents; Movie “The Town That Forgot God,” “THIS WAY OUT – Let’s Go” and a special vaudeville act with free act in front of the theater at 7 p.m.; “Monte Cristo.”

1948

James Campbell of Axton filed suit in Henry County Circuit Court asking for $5,000 in damages against the Henry County School Board and Dempsey Wingfield, a bus driver, over a wreck on Nov. 1 on route 648 between Axton and Leatherwood, in which Wingfield’s bus collided with Campbell’s 1929 Model A Ford. None of the people on the bus were hurt. Route 648 was described as a narrow paved road built the year before with federal aid funds.

1973

Robert Morgan Armstrong, 25, of Bassett was hired as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for Henry County. At that time Roscoe Reynolds was the commonwealths attorney, and Fred Smith was his assistant.

1998

Icicle lights were the hot new decorating trend of 1998, according to a Bulletin article by Chris Dollarhite. Carl Hamby of Rives Road bought five boxes of them. Sarah Ferguson, who was the manager of Big Lots, said her store sold out of them within hours. K-Mart employee Vicki Morrison said her store sold over 20 cases in a few hours.
