To share the fascinating story of Martinsville and Henry County’s past; to help preserve our rich historical resources; and to become a part of a community of history lovers that is the Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society. The Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was formed in 1996 for the primary purpose of preserving and protecting the rich heritage and history of Martinsville and Henry County, Virginia. The Historical Society is the common thread that binds Martinsville and Henry County’s past, present, and future.
Our Mission is. . .
To promote an interest in the broad spectrum of history with emphasis on that of Martinsville and Henry County; to collect, preserve, interpret, and make available material relating to that history; to sponsor research and publications in the field of regional history; and to provide educational services to people and institutions throughout the area.
We are fulfilling this mission by. . .
Presenting to others the rich history of the area; collecting and transcribing oral histories; collecting and publishing stories about our past; managing a collection of artifacts; promoting local Heritage Tourism; and being the caretaker of and repurposing the restored Historic Henry County Courthouse.
