Temporary Exhibits

Coming April 25!

Opened in Fall 2024, “Community Connections” shows how people kept in touch through early newspapers, the beginnings of radio, and then television; plus the wealth of information shared in company newsletters. See an edition of the 1960s black newspaper “Martinsville Tribune,” which has a front-page story on the sit-ins which integrated Martinsville’s lunch counters; read front-page 1921 Henry Bulletin articles that described the first local people listening to the first radio broadcasts; and type on an old typewriter.

With “Sew Special,” see how women of the past combined utility with beauty in the garments they made for their families. Note the fine craftsmanship of the dresses sewn by Mary Anne Elizabeth Moore, then her twin daughters, who carried on their mother’s skills for their own daughters. Learn the fascinating history of clothes made from feedsacks. Check out the styles of sewing machines and notions through the years.
