The Daughters of the Confederacy met at the home of Mrs. I.M. Clingenpeel on Cleveland Avenue. A committee was appointed to look after buying and sending out remembrances to the “Boys of Sixty-One.” The committee was Mrs. J.W. Simmons, Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. Ranson and Mrs. James Cheshire. The club also pondered the idea of organizing a Junior Chapter of the UDC.
Printed in the Dec. 12 Henry Bulletin: “The old church building on Broad Street formerly occupied by the First Baptist Church of this city is being remodeled this week, to be used as a garage. For a long time many had hoped this building, which is in good repair, might be purchased for a public library. We understand it will be used to provide storage for the large number of cars of drummers stopping daily at the Henry Hotel. … We are sure this use of the building will appeal to many of this city.”

An additional 60 free parking spots for city Christmas shoppers were made available for the weekend. The spaces, limited to 2-hour use, were on the site of the old State Farm Insurance building on Church Street, which was the first building to be demolished as part of the city’s downtown development project. The City Hall parking lot also was being increased, to go up to a total of 260 spaces there.
