At the Martinsville School Board’s fall retreat, board member Chuck Davies recommended closing Patrick Henry Elementary School. He said declining enrollment meant that the city would have to close a school, and PHES was the most logical since it needed $2.5 in renovatinos. Its capacity was between 380 and 425 students, but it had only 283. Clearview Elementary School had just undergone a $325,000 renovation, and improvements for Druid Hills were estimated to cost $400,000. Albert Harris Elementary School also was open. Today, only PHES and AHES remain.
